Carlos Falchi presentation at New York Fashion Week

Carlos Falchi Graffiti Tote

This year Lela Luxe had the honor of privately viewing the Carlos Falchi Spring 2010 collection at his studio.  The moment you enter, you’re tantalized by the famous leather handbags which popped with their vibrant color and the supple sheen of their skins.  The Spring 2010 Collection is diverse, contemporary and classic. A large array of styles, colors and shapes will make you want every bag in the collection. The luxurious quality of the alligator, snake and ostrich skins is true to the Carlos Falchi brand and the $220 - $2000 price point is the right investment for any woman's wardrobe. The medium and large psychedelic totes are substantive, yet surprisingly light weight. I heart the graffiti bags in a selection of hand-designed hearts, roses or misc. Next on my shopping list would be the airbrushed giraffe-printed  turquoise, cream and sand. The side details are amazing and classic. I was finding myself literally petting the bag since it was so soft, yet structurally durable and strong.

As a newbie to Carlos Falchi's studio, I was curious how and where the handbags were produced. I was told that the creative workshop is on-sight and I could get a backstage pass to quickly view. I saw the creative collection of drawings, pictures, and samples of swatches for masterpieces to come. The intimate setting instantly got me inspired. Back in the showroom, I reviewed each piece and instantly wanted to know where I can purchase my own. Retailers such as Scoop, Bergdorf, Intermix, to name a few, will definitely have a waiting line, so either pre-order yours or set the date to go shopping now, you will not want to wait!

Here are some of the amazing handbags you’ll be finding next season at your luxe retailer and possibly spot on the Sex and the City 2 flick, including a leather bodice featuring the Carlos Falchi graffiti print: (Images by Michele Joel)

Loris Diran Spring 2010 Collection at New York Fashion Week

Loris Diran Spring Summer 2010 (13) Loris Diran presented his Spring Summer 2010 collection at the Altman Building during New York Fashion Week.  The audience was extraordinarily packed with men.  I was surprised, but then I thought… Loris Diran is quite the dapper don, and if I had to pick which shows today’s modern man uses as an influence for their future wardrobe, Loris Diran would definitely top the list.
His Spring/Summer 2010 collection was inspired by Coney Island.  The amount of joy that crawled up my spine when I read this on the line sheet was immeasurable, by not even Louboutin heels.  The designer who is known for his top quality high-end knits, showcased a collection with a very nostalgic color palette—poppy, sunflower, teal.
My favorite was the sunflower lined multi-pleat jacket and his finale—the black “Cyclone” dress, which wow’d the crowd just as much as Chocheng’s Tiffany inspired dresses did.  A detail which I spotted was also seen at the Monarchy Collection show—the pleated waist for bottom, which I’m having trouble getting used, but I know will grow on me.
The collection didn’t really scream Coney Island, I don’t think anyone would wanted it to.  One doesn’t really think of black (the Cyclone dress) when you hear “I’m going to Coney Island!”  But you do see splashes of yellow and orange-ish, vintage-like colors and this, Loris Diran captured beautifully.
Titled “Luna Park, Loris says that the collection was his was of saying “Goodbye and Thank you to my childhood playground, Coney Island…One of my first memories of America and one that still lives on….in bright sun burnt colors that will stay with me always.”
